How to Recognize Domestic Abuse
Domestic abuse isn’t always physical. You can use these questions to help recognize some signs of an abusive relationship. If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for confidential help at our domestic abuse support team: 616-287-5346.
1. Do you feel anxious or afraid around your spouse?
2. Are you afraid of making your spouse upset or angry?
3. Do you stay quiet when you have a different opinion from your spouse?
4. Does your spouse want to control where you go and what you do?
5. Does your spouse demand access to your phone or account information to “check up” on you?
6. Does your spouse purposely embarrass or belittle you in front of others?
7. Does your spouse blame you for their behavior or try to make you feel worthless?
8. Do you feel cut off from or discouraged from seeing friends or family because of your spouse?
9. Do you feel like you are obligated or coerced to have sex with your spouse?
10. Has your spouse threatened to harm themselves or you if you leave?
